Hi I’m Jaye (aka JB ) and I’m a very proud Canadian presently living in Alberta Canada. I love writing Haiku; it seems as if one either loves or hates haiku with no in between.
I am presently home-schooling my son (jr high) and granddaughter (elem) plus have a part-time job so I keep pretty busy. For those interested in such things, my youngest son has been diagnosed with Aspergers syndrome among other dx; my granddaughter (temporarily living with us) has a learning disorder which she might always have difficulties with. Both those kids are pretty active and sometimes their insight into the world is totally fascinating. Hubby is pretty healthy but I’ve had fibromyalgia even longer than they’ve had a name for it. And no, I don’t take anything for it but have learned some ways of working around it.
I love learning to do new things; among my faves is working with my scroll saw, crafting and painting. I don’t mean painting crafts though – I love painting houses both inside & out! You’d never know it by the way I groan though *grin* but trying to paint walls while watching out for very active kids is a tad difficult some days.
I rec’d my degree in Sociology (ironically, with a concentration in Work, Leisure & Organizations) about 14 years ago and perhaps one day I’ll actually do something in that field. My plans changed when our youngest son came along and life has been interesting enough since then.
Some of you know me by JB within autism or home-school sites; hopefully I’ve written something useful on one of them. Donna Williams is one of my most fave people & as soon as I figure out how to put a link to her blog here, I’ll do so. I think I’ve learned a tremendous amount from her alone.
It seems as if I’ve had my business (Simple Treasures) for a zillion years although I took a bit of a sabbatical from it for awhile. With Simple Treasures, I’ve taught craft classes to adults and kids on a variety of items, sold crafts in many different ways and hopefully will start a page here soon for the fun of it.
I’m learning a new craft now – working with marzipan. My hope is to master it well enough to help some homeschoolers enjoy that art-form as well. I’m getting a kick out of learning to work with it & so are my kids as it’s much like playdough except a lot tastier!
My family and I live near a man-made lake with a great beach which we go to just about every day in the summer. Although my son & I enjoy canoeing, granddaughter prefers to swim so sometimes ‘just a day at the beach’ is pretty busy. My husband doesn’t care for the beach so as soon as the weather is nice enough, we go wandering in the mountains. I don’t call it hiking as it’s usually picnics and long saunters along trails – I might write about them on here as the wilderness is so beautiful! I hate the cold so in the winter I mainly try and hole up somewhere when the family does outside winter activities.
One of these days I would like to write a book but for now, I hope you enjoy my blog.
Cheers!
